Mushrooms Everywhere

Mushrooms Everywhere

I absolutely love mushrooms, so I decided to order some to grow at home. Pink and grey oyster mushrooms. I know the grey ones from Hungary, but I’d never tried the pink variety. They say the pink ones are very versatile because they don’t have a strong mushroom flavour, so even people who normally don’t like mushrooms tend to enjoy them.

This is great for us because I’m the only mushroom lover in the family. But I’ve already managed to cook mushroom dishes that the kids eat — pizzas with finely diced mushrooms, pasta sauces where the mushrooms disappear into the blend.

The growing process was fascinating for the kids even if they’re suspicious of eating the results. You spray the kit with water twice a day, and within a week you can literally watch the mushrooms emerge and grow. Gergo measured them daily and kept a little chart. Science and food, combined.
