Epro8 Engineering Competition
Gergo was in the finals of the engineering competition today. :D I know, I’m calling it a funny name.
I’m not sure what the proper Hungarian term would be. The point is, there’s an engineering/building club at school where kids get a bunch of parts — electronic components, switches, cables, gears, rods, connectors, and all sorts of bits and pieces. Then they get instructions for what they need to assemble.
They have competitions between schools based on this.
Gergo’s team made it to the finals! Today was the final round, where they came first — though two other teams had the same score, so it was a three-way tie! :)
They had to build something that picked up and moved objects from one place to another, using motors and basic electronics. The time pressure was intense — they had a set number of minutes and had to work together efficiently.
I’m incredibly proud of Gergo. When we arrived in New Zealand, he barely spoke English. Now he’s collaborating with Kiwi kids on engineering challenges and winning competitions. These are the moments that make everything worthwhile.
