Mindig is Pozitiv Family Voltunk

We’ve always considered ourselves a positive family. Both Mate and I are hopelessly drawn to the positive side of everything — the opportunity side, to use a cliche. :-P

The past two-plus years had been a constant series of COVID outbreaks in the news, which had largely passed us by. UNTIL NOW.

Reka started it — she tested positive over the weekend. We only tested her because it turned out the girl at school who’d been absent all week was actually out with COVID. They sit next to each other, so the math wasn’t hard.

Then, like dominoes, the rest of us fell. Gergo next, then Anna, then Zsuzsi, and finally me. We had about two weeks of everyone being in various stages of illness, recovery, and isolation.

The silver lining? It was incredibly mild for all of us. The kids barely noticed — Reka had a runny nose for two days, Gergo had a slight cough, and Anna showed no symptoms at all. Zsuzsi and I felt like we had a bad cold for about three days.

The NZ health system handled it efficiently. Register the positive test online, get daily check-in texts, receive clear isolation guidelines. No panic, no drama.

Looking back, the positivity that defines our family applied here too. We caught it, dealt with it, and moved on. After two years of dodging it, it almost felt like a relief to have it behind us.
